How Much Should You Tip A Makeup Artist
Tipping freelance pilus & makeup artists
As a former waitress who made $2.50 an 60 minutes without tips (as almost all do), I'g all about generous tipping for people who make a tipped wage. Only what about hair and makeup artists who don't work for anyone else and therefore get to go on all the money they brand, I assume we're supposed to tip them the aforementioned amount? Or perchance I'm totally off base of operations and it'southward not customary to tip them? I evidently tip at regular hair salons because I know they have to pay out the salon itself.

@Alecia, yeah I definitely practice too for people who work out of a salon, that comes from the fact that the artists have to requite a clamper of their coin to the salon itself. I approximate I'grand not really sure of the point of a tip in the freelance situation.

Aye, tip the same corporeality. Just considering they don't "work for" anyone else doesn't mean they don't have overhead and tax implications that have away from what their cost is. They don't become to keep all the money. The makeup, brushes, their car to get to your appointment if they travel, etc. are all expenses that they pay for - not a salon or visitor in some cases. Tip based on how skilful a job they did.

I've heard this equally well that if a person owns the business organization then you don't tip because they take set the price. It seems odd to me to not tip hair, makeup, photo, DJ etc...I'one thousand super dislocated every bit to what to exercise and certainly don't want to shortchange anyone.

Okay Martha Stewart says to tip if they come to your home or venue, just "in general, makeup artists and hair stylists who own their own businesses are not tipped." Since they are coming to my venue tho, that answers my question!

I've waitressed for years equally I'grand doing it role fourth dimension again now for hymeneals coin. That said, I don't mind tipping for services only I don't sympathize why you should tip when they set their own prices. Similar the photographer, dj, freelance creative person. They tin add together travel fee and charge whatever they want to brand include their products and tools. I assume I am paying for that as well as time and talent in charge. If it'southward normal, I'll do it, I don't want to exist a inexpensive a***, but I don't become it.

In my land it is not legal for the salon to charge the stylist to work there. The pilus stylist does not "pays hire." Not all hair stylists do pay rent to work.
Donna ·
No—you exercise not tip. The purpose of tipping is for flat wage earners whose efforts make a difference in your service—in other words they exceeded the expected service. Business owners, whether they are a hair/makeup person, a florist, a caterer or a free-lance mechanic should Not receive tips because they, unlike wage-earners set their own fees. They can charge you whatever rate is worth their time. Their "overhead" such as pilus tools/makeup are irrevelant. ALL business owners have expenses. The IRS allows them to write off these expenses, lowering their tax charge per unit. Tipping is getting out of hand—information technology is meant to benefit employees who are paid (usually) a low, flat wage for which they have no control.
